"Begum Jaan" is a Hindi film released in 2017, directed by Srijit Mukherji. It is a remake of the critically acclaimed Bengali film "Rajkahini." The movie is set during the partition of India in 1947 and revolves around the character of Begum Jaan, played by Vidya Balan.

Begum Jaan is a fierce and resilient woman who runs a brothel in a small village on the border of India and Pakistan. The brothel is situated on the land that is going to be divided by the newly drawn border line, which will separate India and Pakistan. The local authorities inform Begum Jaan and her girls that they have to vacate the premises as it now falls within the territory of Pakistan.

However, Begum Jaan refuses to leave her brothel, which is not just her home but also a safe haven for the marginalized and abused women who work there. She stands her ground and gathers support from the women who live with her. They decide to fight for their rights and their home, even if it means going against the authorities.

As tensions rise and the partition draws near, Begum Jaan and her girls face opposition from both the Indian and Pakistani sides. The local politicians, bureaucrats, and even the military get involved in the conflict, trying to force Begum Jaan and her girls out of the brothel.

The movie showcases the struggles, sacrifices, and resilience of Begum Jaan and her girls as they fight for their survival and dignity. It explores themes of women empowerment, the impact of partition on common people, and the strength of unity and resistance in the face of adversity.

"Begum Jaan" is an emotional and powerful film that highlights the indomitable spirit of women and the injustices they face in society. It portrays the journey of a strong-willed woman who refuses to bow down to societal norms and fights for her rights till the end.
